Comparison of Horror 1950 - Modern Day

The following link is a very useful little run through of three things:

1) Decade by decade summing up of 'popular horror' of that decade
2) Highlight the changing tastes of the consumers, themes, plots and tolerance to violence.
3) A social and historical context to that those changes

Also gives a list of the main film titles for those decades please.

Task:
• Create a time line 1950  to modern day ( you can add in in current horrors since this article was written, such as 'IT' for the 2010s).
• Explain the main changes in the horror film industry decade to decade.
read around the suggested  social and historical factors which the article suggests are catalysts for change.

• List FIVE of the most popular horror films for that decade.
• Choose one of the main films in each decade and find an example of the film poster.
• Does the poster reflect any of these changes?
• Is there any intertextuality?
• Are there any obvious changes to representation or stereotypes?
• You may use other posters from each decade to strengthen any further points.

It may well help to revisit the work sheet where we covered some key language and theories and apply these to each poster to help identify any similarities or differences.
